Anthony Whiting

International Artist

Bio:

Anthony Whiting, born in Mexico has lived in Latin America, North Africa, Asia, Italy, Sweden and England in addition to the U.S.   Studying and working in diverse cultures has helped him develop unusual empathy and sensitivity to people, places and the natural world.  Anthony is greatly inspired by local art and craft forms, by the textures and colors of the desert, by aquatic scenes, by forests and nature in general, and by the cultures of the peoples in the Mediterranean areas and other parts of the world.  His works are in numerous collections on both sides of the Atlantic and he has had numerous one-man and group exhibitions in England and the U.S.

Anthony is especially well qualified to teach painting because of his extensive experience in sketching, painting and design.   He first taught private students in London, England while working as an architect in that city, later in Connecticut where he taught Adult Education classes and now in Jacksonville, FL.   One reason for his success in painting instruction is having participated in the past as a student himself in painting workshops with nationally known artists Barbara Nechis, Al Brouillette, Jean Dobie, Paul Leveille, Margaret Martin, Charles Sovek and Robert Burridge.

Inspiration for his designs comes from nature in all its forms -- mineral, wood, floral, birds, animal and aquatic life.  He uses design principles of contrast, rhythm, repetition and where appropriate, introduces rich sensuality or humor into his works.

Anthony is the proud recipient of the brAIDS ARTreach 2006 First Prize award for his painting in Jacksonville FL.   He and his works are included in the following publications:

American Artist, Illustrated Survey of Leading Contemporaries

Art Boston 1990, The Copley Society

      Art in America Annual 1990-91

      Encyclopedia of American Artists
